What Students Learn

First Strike’s Range Safety Officer Course is delivered online and teaches students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

  • Test and Review

Standards

This course meets or exceeds the NRA’s (National Rifle Association) Range Safety Officer course. To receive your certificate, you must complete all six lessons and a a written test with 90% pass rate in order to become a certified Range Safety Officer. If you do not pass the course the first time you will be able to take the test two more times. Once you pass the course you will be directed to receive a completion certificate that you can print.

If you do not pass the exam after the third time and you would like to pursue First Strike certification as a Range Safety Officer, you will need to successfully complete a live classroom-based course facilitated by an NRA Certified Chief Range Safety Officer. You will have access to this program for 90 days from the start of your enrollment date after which access expires.

Prerequisites

You must currently hold certification as a First Strike Basic Firearms Instructor (or certification from a recognized agency) in Handgun, Shotgun, or Carbine. First Strike Range Safety Officers (RSOs) should be experienced shooters, involved in many aspects of target shooting, training and range supervision.

Limitations

  • Must be 21 years or older to attend.
  • No violent or drug felony convictions.
  • Not under a protection order.

  • $147 USD for Non-Members.
  • FREE for Authorized Instructors.

  • All students must provide a photo ID and complete required paperwork.

  • Once a course has been paid for, there are no refunds.
  • Payment of course does not guarantee certification.
